The video you see here has been in the works for so many years, always being changed, modified, and slightly tuned. I hope this is finally the last version of it. I want to say a few words about this video. You see a Chinese woman who is pregnant, whom my team once met in Vietnam by accident. We did a shoot on the beach, and she reminded me so much of Bhuvaneshvari, one of the tantric goddesses of the Mahavidyas. Bhuvaneshvari is the protector of the Earth, ruling over the five elements, the Mahabhutas.
What you hear in the video is also interesting: these are death ritual sounds from Indonesia. The reason I chose these death ritual sounds as the soundtrack for a tantric sadhana video is that one of my first teachings in tantric traditions was that death comes before life, before sexuality, before sensuality, before fun. In tantric sadhana and laya yoga, you always face the hard stuff first. After you’ve been metaphorically “dying,” you move into the smoother, sensual, and beautiful practices. Because only then does the beauty really work. You first have to strip everything away; you have to destroy something, including someone’s ego. That’s why we work with practices like Manonasha, the destruction of the mind, so that even a simple touch can become the most amazing thing you’ve ever experienced. But this only works through sensual deprivation and breaking down the ego structure.
That’s one part of the video, and I’m very proud to have obtained these audio recordings from a photographer friend who captured death rituals in Indonesia and around the world. He gave me this unique soundtrack. The other soundtrack is “Shiva Shiva Shambho,” from India. It’s also a recording from a graveyard ceremony, though I’m not sure if it’s from Rishikesh or Varanasi.
In the video, I’ve also used some AI-created visuals to depict the inner world of what happens when you’re immersed in these practices. It’s all about what happens inside your consciousness. In modern life, there’s so much external noise that the consciousness—the soul inside it—often doesn’t get a chance to play with itself. That’s why I combined a few AI videos, which, for me, reflect my inner experiences.
At the end of the video, you see two people meditating on the beach. And that’s about it. I’m really happy with this intro video and hope some of you will like it too.
